In the first three months of 2020/21, sunflower exports from Russia reached 400,000 tons, which is 64% more than the previous season.

- In the first three months of 2020/21, sunflower exports from Russia reached 400,000 tons, which is 64% more than the previous season. This is the highest level of sunflower exports from Russia for the last 20 years. The largest importer of Russian sunflower are:

  • Bulgaria with 156,000 tons (+500% compared to the same period last year)
  • Turkey- 110,000 tons

- According to UkrAgroConsult, in the period September-October the export of sunflower from Ukraine reached 76,900 tons, which is the highest level since 2004/05 and 5,100 tons more than the same period in the previous year. The largest customer is Bulgaria - 71,000 tons (-100 tons compared to the previous season).

- Experts from FranceAgriMer raised their forecast for wheat exports from France in 2020/21 to non-EU countries, for the third consecutive time, to a total of 6.95 million tons (6.85) and 13.46 million tons in 2019/20. The ending stocks of wheat in the country will be at their lowest point for the last 7 years - 2.5 million tons. Corn stocks were also dropped to 1.9 million tons (the lowest in 7 years) and barley remained unchanged at 1.2 million tons (the lowest in 4 years).

- In their December report, analysts from the USDA have left unchanged their expectations of the sunflower production in Ukraine in 2020/21 at 14 million tons. The production of sunflower meal and sunflower oil also remains unchanged at 5.72 million tons and 5.96 million tons, respectively.

Sunflower production in different countries is expected to reach:

  • Argentina- 2.9 million tons (-0.1 million tons compared to the previous month estimate)
  • Russia- 13 million tons (unchanged)
  • Turkey- 1.56 million tons (unchanged)
  • EU- 9.2 million tons (-0.1 million tons) 

The world's total sunflower production is estimated at:

  • sunflower- 49.46 million tons (54.96 million tons in 2019/20)
  • sunflower meal- 20.71 million tons (22.3)
  • sunflower oil- 19.27 million tons (21.5)

- Conab has lowered its estimates of the soybean production in Brazil in 2020/21 by 0.5 million tons to 134.5 million tons and 124.8 million tons in 2019/20. The harvest starts in January. Corn production is predicted to reach 102.589 million tons (-2.2% compared to the previous month and at the same level as in 2019/20). Corn exports will be 35 million tons (+1.4%). The wheat production will be 6.183 million tons (-2.8% and +20%), and imports- 6.8 million tons (unchanged).

- On December 10, 2020, the Egyptian state-owned company, GASC, purchased 30,000 tons of soybean oil at a price of 1,000 USD / ton and delivery in January-February C&F. Offers for the sale of sunflower oil were not accepted due to the high price - 1,153 - 1,164 USD / ton.
