Grain Highlights 17.12.2020

Demand for Polish wheat for export remains high. 4 ships with a total cargo of 156,000 tons are now loaded in Polish ports.

- The harvest campaign of the 2020 production has ended in Russia. 46.4 million hectares of cereals have been harvested. 138.1 million tons of bunker grain weight were harvested including:

  • wheat- 88.1 million tons
  • barley- 22.2 million tons
  • corn- 14.3 million tons

In addition, the following amounts of crops have also been harvested:

  • sunflower- 13.3 million tons
  • rapeseed- 2.7 million tons
  • soybeans- 4.4 million tons

- According to APC - Inform, 4.9 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine in November, which is 6.5% more than in October. These included:

  • wheat- 1.16 million tons (2.1)
  • barley- 261,000 tons
  • corn- 3.48 million tons (+170%)

The largest customers of Ukrainian production were:

  • wheat- Pakistan with 222,000 tons
  • barley and corn- China with 163,500 tons and 1.3 million tons, respectively

- As of 14.12.2020, the sowing of winter crops has been completed in Ukraine.

8.07 million hectares have been sown:

  • wheat- 6.1 million hectares
  • barley- 954,700 hectares
  • rye- 125,200 hectares
  • rapeseed- 881,100 hectares

- During the week of 7 - 13 December, 72,900 tons of rapeseed were delivered to the EU compared to 101,400 tons a week earlier. Imports of sunflower were 13,900 tons (19,900).

- Demand for Polish wheat for export remains high. 4 ships with a total cargo of 156,000 tons are now loaded in Polish ports. Polish wheat with a protein content of 12.5% with delivery in December ​​is quoted at the level of 203.5 EUR / ton. The country ranks fourth among EU wheat exporters with a share of 11.4%. The top three EU wheat exporters remain France with a share of 26%, Lithuania with 17% and Latvia-14%.

- Abiove forecasts 16.6 million tons (-1.2% per year) of soybean meal exports from Brazil in 2021 and domestic consumption of 17.4 million tons (+ 4.2%). The soybean production is predicted to reach 132.6 million tons (127) and exports are estimated at 83.5 million tons (82.3). Exports of soybean oil will be 0.4 million tons (1.1).

- On 16.12.2020, Tunisia bought 100,000 tons of soft milling wheat, 100,000 tons of durum wheat and 100,000 tons of feed barley with delivery February - March.

- On 16.12.2020, Thailand purchased 77,000 tons of feed wheat of any origin at a price of 279 - 280 USD / ton and delivery in February 2021.

- According to Oil World, in 2020/21 rapeseed areas in India will reach a record level of 7.5 million hectares. The rapeseed production is expected to reach 8.1 million tons compared to 7.4 million tons in 2019/20.

- According to SEA, imports to India have reached:

  • 618,500 tons of palm oil compared to 672,600 tons in October
  • 250,800 tons of soybean oil (+52%)
  • 214,100 tons of sunflower oil (-19%)

- Bangladesh has canceled a tender for the purchase of 50,000 tons of milled wheat.
