Grain Highlights 05.04.2021

According to the forecast of APC - Inform, the total grain production in Ukraine will reach 73.8 million tons in 2021/22 (+13% compared to 2020/21), including wheat - 27.5 million tons (+10%); barley - 8 million tons (+2%); corn - 35.7 million tons (+19%).

- In 2021/22, 19.4 million hectares were sown with winter crops in Russia. 80% of them are in good and fair condition, which is below the level of 2020/21.

- According to the forecast of the Union of Grain Exporters from Russia, grain exports from the country will be 46.5 million tons in 2020/21. The export potential is 50 million tons, but will not be reached due to export taxes.

- In March, exports of sunseed oil from Russia reached 433,000 tons, which is 50% more than in February. The main buyers were Turkey with 148,000 tons, China with 72,000 tons, Iran with 48,000 tons and India with 44,000 tons.

- During the week March 29 - April 4, 2021, 252,560 tons of grain were exported from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, which is 39.7% more than the previous week and 30% less than the previous year. 186,560 tons of wheat (+11.3% and -48.3%) and 66,000 tons of barley (+500%) were exported.

- According to the forecast of APC - Inform, the total grain production in Ukraine will reach 73.8 million tons in 2021/22 (+13% compared to 2020/21), including:

  • barley - 8 million tons (+2%)
  • corn - 35.7 million tons (+19%)

The export potential of the country in the new season will be 54.2 million tons (+19%), including:

  • wheat - 19.8 million tons (+13%)
  • barley - 4.3 million tons (+1%)
  • corn - 29.5 million tons (+27%)

- As of 01.04.2021, 310,600 hectares have been sown with spring crops in Ukraine, which is 4% of the plan.

- According to FranceAgriMer, as of March 29, 2021, 87% of soft wheat crops in France are in good and excellent condition (87% a week earlier and 62% a year earlier).

- In March 2021, corn exports from Brazil reached a total of 294,489 tons, which is 35.8% less than in February, according to SAFRAS & Mercado. The decline is due to strong soybean exports during the month.

- According to Oil World, 560,000 tons of soyoil were exported from Argentina in March (222,000 tons in March 2020). The largest customers were:

  • India - 230,000 tons (140,000)
  • Bangladesh - 65,000 tons (34,000)
  • China - 95,000 tons
  • Iraq - 33,000 tons
  • Iran - 32,000 tons
  • Egypt - 30,000 tons

In the first three months of 2021, soyoil exports reached 1.68 million tons (0.994), including 862,000 tons to India (667,000), 209,000 tons to Bangladesh (107,000), 169,000 tons to Iran and 125,000 tons to China.

- Oil World has raised its forecast for the canola production in Australia in 2020/21 by 0.35 million tons to a total of 4.4 million tons. Exports are projected at 3.1 million tons, which is the highest level for the last 4 seasons. The domestic processing of the crop is estimated at 0.93 million tons (0.88) and the ending stocks at 0.32 million tons (0.03).

- At the end of March, palm oil stocks in Malaysia reached 1.32 million tons, which is 1.3% more than in February. Over the last 10 years, the average level of palm oil stocks is 1.97 million tons. During the month, palm oil production reached 1.38 million tons (+25%), which is the highest level for the last 4 months. Exports were 1.12 million tons (+ 25%), which is the highest level for the current year.

- On 02.04.2021, Saudi Arabia purchased 295,000 tons of milling wheat from Australia, the EU, the Black Sea region, North America and Latin America at an average price of 271.05 USD/ton C&F and delivery in May - June.

- In the first half of the season, soybean imports to Turkey reached 949,000 tons, including 471,000 tons from Ukraine and 336,000 tons from Brazil. The import of soymeal were 248,000 tons, including 243,000 tons from Argentina, 43,000 tons from Brazil and 40,000 tons from Bolivia.
