Grain Highlights 26.04.2023

Refinitiv Commodities Research has lowered its forecast for the 2023/24 EU soft wheat production by 1 million tons to 131.2 million tons (126 in 2022/23).

- Over the period of April 1-25, concluded but unfulfilled deals for the export of Russian wheat reached a minimum level of 1.7 million tons (2.4 a month earlier), which is the lowest indicator since November 2022.

- From the beginning of the season to 26.04.2023, the export of grain from Ukraine reached 41.149 million tons (45.709 a year earlier), including 3.173 million tons in April (763,000). 14.156 million tons of wheat (1.158), 2.453 million tons of barley (177,000) and 24.216 million tons of corn (1.834) were exported.

- The government of Moldova has announced a tender for the sale of 21,083 tons of wheat from the state reserve. The aim is to replace stocks with the new 2023/24 crop.

- The European Commission has agreed to introduce a ban on the import of sunseed oil into the EU from Ukraine, but leaves transit for third countries free.

- Refinitiv Commodities Research has lowered its forecast for the 2023/24 EU soft wheat production by 1 million tons to 131.2 million tons (126 in 2022/23). The corn production forecast remained unchanged at 64.4 million tons.

- Yesterday Chicago commodity funds were net sellers of 2,500 contracts of corn, 6,500 contracts of wheat and 3,000 contracts of soybeans.

- According to Conab data, as of 22/04/2023 in Brazil, 89% of soybean areas were harvested (+4% for the week and 91% a year earlier). Due to the dry weather, the campaign in Paraná has progressed rapidly. Yields are above expectations.

- According to an estimate by AmSpec Agri Malaysia, over the period of April 1 – 15, palm oil exports from Malaysia were 927,300 tons (1.13 million tonnes a month earlier).

- Algeria has announced a tender for the purchase of 50,000 tons of soft wheat of any origin and delivery within June-July.

- Tunisia has announced a tender for the purchase of 75,000 tons of soft wheat of any origin.
