Stratégie Grains has lowered their forecast for the soft wheat production in the EU for 2023/24 by 1.4 million tons to 124.7 million tons (compared to 125.3 million in 2022/23).

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia as of August 9, 2023, winter crops have been sown on 7.6 thousand hectares in Russia (+1.4 compared to 2022). In 2022, the total area sown with winter crops was 17.275 million hectares, and in 2021, it was 18.235 million hectares.

As of August 9, 2023, 17.1 million hectares with various crops have been harvested in Russia (compared to 15.6 million in 2022), which accounts for 35% of all areas. A total of 65.6 million tons of grain have been collected, including 52.8 million tons of wheat (-3% compared to 2022). The harvested area of wheat represents 43.4% of all areas harvested. 7.9 million tons of barley have been harvested (29.4%).

Stratégie Grains has lowered their forecast for the soft wheat production in the EU for 2023/24 by 1.4 million tons to 124.7 million tons (compared to 125.3 million in 2022/23). The corn production is expected to be 58.7 million tons (-2.1 and 52.1), and barley production is projected to be 47.2 million tons (+0.1 and 51.3).

From the beginning of the season until August 6, 2023, soybean imports to the EU have reached 1.09 million tons (compared to 1.37 million tons the previous year), rapeseed imports were 199,963 tons (581,669), and soymeal imports reached 1.27 million tons (1.51).

According to Anec's forecast, Brazil is expected to export 8.8 million tons of soybeans in August (compared to 9.1 million in July and 5 million in August 2022). Soymeal exports are projected to be 2.2 million tons (-0.3 and +0.6), and corn exports are estimated at 9.8 million tons (6.4 and 6.8).

According to Safras&Mercado data as of August 4, 2023, 60.3% of the second corn crop areas have been harvested in Brazil. In Mato Grosso, 87.6% of the areas have been harvested.

According to the Rosario Grain Exchange's forecast, soybean production in Argentina for 2023/24 is expected to reach 48 million tons (compared to 20 million in 2022/23).

In July, palm oil stocks in Malaysia increased by 0.68% compared to the previous month, reaching 1.73 million tons. Production amounted to 1.61 million tons (+11.21%), while exports reached 1.35 million tons (+15.5%).

Authorities in India plan to reduce the import tax on wheat from 40% to 15% to curb inflation in the country due to a relatively good production. The government has initiated sales of 5 million tons of wheat and 2.5 million tons of rice in the domestic market.

Algeria has purchased 80,000 tons of corn from Argentina with delivery scheduled between August 15 and 31.

Jordan has announced a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of feed barley of unspecified origin and 100,000 to 120,000 tons of milling wheat with deliveries in January - February.
