China To Increase Grain Oil Import By 15% In 2017

Wilmar reported that sunflower oil import in China was 0.94 mln tons in 2016 versus 0.63 mln tons a year earlier.

75% of the imported amount had been produced in Ukraine. The share was 86% in 2015.

It is worth mentioning that, in 2016, China imported sunflower oil from Kazakhstan too.

Domestic sunflower oil production in China is 30,000 tons per annum.

Sunflower oil import in China is expected to rise by 15% in 2017 up to 1.08 mln tons.

Official reports from India state that the country's monthly January sunflower oil import of around 214,900 tons (+16% versus December) has exceeded the soybean oil import of 166,600 tons (-28%) for the first time. Soybean oil import in February is expected to exceed sunflower oil import. India is the biggest sunflower oil importer in the world with expected 2016 – 2017 import of 1.75 – 2 mln tons.

SEA reported that grain oil import in India dropped by 19% in January down to 1.02 mln tons. Palm oil import was 608,800 tons (-11.56% and a 64% share). Rapeseed oil import was 17,900 tons (7,460).
