Soybean Areas In The US Will Be Record Large In 2017 - 2018

According to the USDA forecast, soybean areas in the US in 2017 - 2018 will increase by 4.6 million acres versus 2016 - 2017 up to 88 million acres.

There have been some expectations on the market for areas of 87.58 mln acres. The growth is mainly due to the current soybean/corn price ratio, which currently is 2.6, putting soybean in a favourable position.

Corn areas will be 90 mln acres, which is 4 mln acres below the current season level with market estimates for areas of 91.05 mln acres.

Wheat areas will decreas by 4.2 mln acres down to 46 mln acres.

With the current soybean area forecast, if we assume that the average yield will be at about 48 – 50 bushels/acre, soybean yield will reach 114.3 – 119.1 mln tons.

With an average corn yield of 169 – 171 bushels/acre, corn yield will be 355.4 – 359.6 mln tons.

We can expect a wheat yield of about 50 mln tons.
