SovEcon has lowered its forecast for grain and wheat exports from Russia for the 2024/25 season. Grain exports are expected to reach 52 million tons (down from 53.6 million in the previous estimate), including 44.1 million tons of wheat (down from 45.9 million).
According to Fedoil data, oilseed processing in EU countries increased by 11% in October compared to September, reaching 3.32 million tons (2.91 million in October 2023). Rapeseed processing reached 1.69 million tons (1.55 million in September and 1.68 million in October 2023), soybean processing reached 1.07 million tons (1.02 million and 0.75 million), and sunseed processing amounted to 554,000 tons (425,000 and 484,000). Since the beginning of 2024, oilseed processing in the EU has totaled 33.04 million tons (out of a maximum capacity of 38.8 million) compared to 31.45 million tons during January–October 2023. Rapeseed processing was 16.54 million tons (up from 15.92 million), soybean processing was 11.53 million tons (up from 11.28 million), and sunseed processing reached 4.96 million tons (up from 4.26 million).
After a statement on social media by the future U.S. president, Trump, that he would immediately impose a 10% tariff on Chinese imports and a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico upon taking office, soybean oil prices rose by 3%. Higher tariffs on imports from Canada would restrict rapeseed oil supplies to the United States, a key ingredient in biodiesel production. Palm oil prices in Malaysia increased by 1.2% amid speculation about reduced production in the country.
By the end of last week, 55% of winter wheat crops in the United States were in good to excellent condition (up from 49% the previous week, 44% two weeks earlier, and 50% a year earlier). Rainfall over the past month has been a stabilizing factor for the crops.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 249,000 tons of barley were exported from Australia in September (down from 297,000 tons in August). Total exports for the 2023/24 season amounted to 7.9 million tons, including 4.97 million tons of feed barley.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy, the country plans to implement B50 biodiesel by 2026. This will require the construction of 7–9 new production plants for B50 biodiesel. Current annual biodiesel consumption is 15.8 million kiloliters, which will increase by an additional 3.9 million kiloliters. Investments in these plants will amount to USD 360 million. A roadmap for B100 fuel is already being developed.
Tunisia has announced a tender to purchase 100,000 tons of soft wheat and 100,000 tons of durum wheat from any origin, with delivery scheduled between December 15, 2024, and January 25, 2025.
Jordan purchased 60,000 tons of milling wheat in a tender for 120,000 tons at a price of 268.9 USD/ton C&F from Cargill, with delivery between January 15–31, 2025. Tender prices ranged from 275 to 285 USD/ton across seven offers.
